Some files cannot be deleted while Windows is in motion, they are locked. Reboot and check the size then.

Go through Windows explorer. Find the Folder C:\Windows\temperary internet files. Find the select all button and hit the delete key. Your cookies may force you not to delete all the files. Thus, delete what you can the first time and go thru the ctrl panal as you have before.

I think i read a post in the 9x forum about 10,000 files (limit?) being deleted at a time. You might try deleting a few at a time.

Delindex will get rid of your temp net files.

20,000 files will take a LONG TIME to delete. While they are being deleted, if you hit ctrl+alt+del you will see a Not Responding message for the Temp Inet files folder.

How long have you let it set there?

By a LONG TIME, I mean it can take more than an hour.

Try IE tools internet options and reducing the amount of space used for tif storage as low as possible. Re-boot. Run cleanmanager and rediuce space used by system restore to 200 click apply and listen! Re-boot. Now go to C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files. Open the document tree to the left of the window and click on the same file on the tree. You wil find a hidden cache with several alpha-numeric files delete them all and empty the bin using right click empty (do not open the Bin window) Now delete the cache, WARNING SYSTEM FILE, you can safely ignore this completely as Windows will build you a new one. Re-boot. open Bin window and delete everything you find. Delete all temp files the APPLOG file in Windows and run find-file to find .tmp file extensions (just type .tmp)DELETE! OK so now close everything in your Ctrl+Alt+Del Window except Explorer (and systray) run cleanmanager, NEXT run defrag, run Scandisk, and YOU are up and running. Iain.

In the IE options on the Advanced tab in the Security section is 'empty temp files when browser is closed'.
