Since then once Windows ME starts, I go to run a application for example Word, and it comes up with winword.exe is not a valid w32 application. This happens with all the applications that run using Windows. Could someone please help me?

If you have cleaned the virus/trojan off and you still cannot start any programs...

Download and install the EXEfix08 from this page:
http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html

It is marked for 95/98, but it will work on ME.
