HDD error on start up

p3 733 mghz 128 sdram 20 gig hard drive
ok here's my problem , i accidently knocked my pc when it was booting up , the hard disk stopped working and i got the message please insert a floppy into a: , i tried repeated start up attempts with the same message please insert floppy , so thinking i got the problem sussed ( i thought broke hard drive ) i get my hands on a 4.3 gig drive , i put it in my pc , run the win me boot disk , and it gives me these 3 error reports , saying hard drive may not be fat 16 fat 32 etc or could have a virus etc , then it says your cd drive is D: so it basically doesnt see the hard drive , ive tried the 4.3 gig in the pc im using now , and it even installed win me for me , so i got a hard drive waiting and ready n fresh , ok back to the point , i believe and i could be wrong , have i done more damage than just destroying the 20 gig , i mean in the bios it will find any hard disk on auto detect but the pc will not boot any hard disk inside it , just please insert a disk into a: please help ive been up for hours , ive tried everything i know , oh it also says on the black screen about a few seconds after i hit the power on button , it says quickly , HDD error , please help please email if u know what the problem is and could help to wet_dreams@hotmail.com <-- i know stupid email addy , thank you anyone who can help , Rob

Have you tried unplugging all adapter cards (except video) and seeing if one of them could be causing the problem. One could be loose and shorting something on the bus.

Using the now formated 4.3, does HDD AutoDetect show the correct settings when you go into the CMOS BIOS setup? If so, it is reading the drive. Else you might now have a damaged cable, so try a different one that works OK.
