Subject: Having lots of minor problems with WINME
Comment:

I've been having lots of minor problems with Windows ME that I haven't had before.

1. Usually, if you right click in a folder, on the desktop, or anywhere, you can create something 'new' under the 'new' menu. You know: right click, new, folder. Simple as that. But now it disappeared. I've lost lots of features for some reason...

When I right click, it only shows Arrange Icons, Line up icons, refresh, paste, paste shortcut, and properties, it's a simple menu and I want my other one back!

2. I can't view anything by thumbnails anywhere. I used to be able to view my pictures and folers and files and everything by thumbnails! Now it's gone and I can't...

3. When I shut down my computer (using start, shutdown, and ok), it doesnt shut down. The screen is blank but the computer stays on.

Can someone help me with any 3 of these problems? (or all of them if you could) =)

SYSTEM SPECS: Dont laught at my system...

Dell 4100 =/
Windows ME (of course, thats what this forum is for)
P3 866MHZ
128MB RAM (UPGRADE TIME)
GeForce2 GTS
I have all updated drivers and everything...

Ok, thanks for the ideas. I'll do a virus scan right now, and make sure and close everything in the trays (and running in the background) next time.

The only software I installed recently was: Teamspeak, a program for communicating with others in games, and Path Finder, a program used to find players and servers in a game. But besides those, I have no idea what could've caused my computer to get rid of those options/features...

First, Theres nothing wrong with your system except as you pointed out, a little more ram wouldn't hurt. As for your thumbnail problem,SMUOD has a fix for that Here.

Also, in control panel check power options\advanced tab and make sure "When I press the power button" is set to "Power off"

Do you have the Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package from windows update installed?
Also check this link from newgrl. How to Troubleshoot Windows Me Shutdown Problems (Q273746)

One more thing- If you have tweakui (or like prog) on the new tab make sure the options you want are checked.

This advice is general rather than specific but if you do it you will have a great system

Actually, the fix for the thumbnails didn't work. I should be able to select view, then thumbnails, and view everything by thumbnails at once, but I can't still even with that fix thing...

So...I'm still stuck... =/

And I don't know about that cache package...?

As soon as you apply the thumbnail fix, run scanreg and back up your registery. this should save your settings. Also do as many points in Trevs post as practical, omitting the ones your not sure about.Even a few should make a difference and you can always try a few more points later.

make a new text document, copy the following text and paste it into the document. save it as jpgfix.reg then double click to merge into the registry. Back up your registry first!
