Hey guys, i have no idea what's wrong with my computer..... i'm worried i may have a virus or something. It's an HP 766 mhz celeron that i got a little over two years ago. it's been running fine up until this occured. about a month or so ago i noticed that my computer was freezing up more often than usual. a few weeks later i noticed some "memory meter" program in my task bar. then a few days later, i couldnt power on my computer anymore. there was suddenly something wrong with the power supply.i had to order a new power supply and had it installed for free at CompUSA a few days ago, but when i brought it home and powered it on the resolution was 640x480 with 16 colors, it wont let me change it. i followed the windows troubleshooting guide on my computer for the problem and tried everything, but nothing solved the problem. my computer is also unable to play any audio at all. i've noticed the following error message every time i power on the computer- "rundll has caused an error in mmsystem.dll, rundll will now close". Today, i had a virtual bouncer message come up. i declined the prompts, and removed the program by searching for it under "search" and deleted all of the files. I'm hoping somebody can please tell me whats wrong with my computer, and what exactly i can do to fix the problem. By the way, i download a lot of files from kazaa if that could help anyone solve my problem. i could use a lot of help. thanks a lot guys

Kazaa contains spyware, uninstall kazaa, but it sounds like your problem is more than that. Get spybot search and destroy, update it and run it, also get ad-aware, update and run it. Do and online virus scan like active scan from panda You would also want to do scandisc to check the drive for errors.
Get Kazaa Lite it has no spyware.
From all that you said though, this still might not take care of it all, maybe someone else could be more help. But definately do the spybot and ad-aware and the virus scan and come back with your results.

When you have done these things, post a new post in this forum to let us know of any further problems you are still having and what things you have previously done - it would be worth referencing this post (number 36536) in your new post since by the time you have done all these things, this post will have disappeared way down the forum list.
I'd suspect that the above steps in previous replies will help most of your problems in the meantime...

Do what it says at the homepage link on this response, too, after you have tackled the spyware, virus check, etc.

Hey guys, i did the mcafee freescan online virus scan, and apparently the C:\windows\system\net.api.exe file is infected with the virus BackDoor-RP.svr. I did some research to try to find how to remove the virus, but couldnt find anything helpful. I also haven't had a chance to look into any spyware removal programs yet, but i'm a broke teenager who doesn't have any money for any programs, so if someone can tell me a reliable way to remove the spyware and/or the virus for free, please let me know. Thanks a lot guys, and sorry that I havent had a chance to do any of the spyware stuff yet. I appreciate it......

How to remove the trojan is dealt with on www.symantec.com
AVG is a free virus protection software from
www.grisoft.com
