Comment:

Within the last Wk. I have had to Shut Down my system twice to get to accualy Shut Down.

Win Me loads and appears to work properly, but I have to click on Start, Shut Down, Ok twice before it will shut down.

I have been to MS Windows updates and downloaded All recomended updates but the proble still exist.

Please advise if you have a solution.

boot with a millenium boot disk

change to c:
type
c:\scanreg/restore [note the forward slash]
in the menu, choose an earlier date to restore to, before the problem arose

jwoodrum, FWIW, a lot of Windows 98 based machines (ME is one) have reported various shutdown problems for a variety of reasons. I have experienced problems using both OSes and a solution which worked for me is installation/use of a program called 'Slawdog'. If you put a shortcut icon in your quicklaunch toolbar, it'll provide you reliable ONE CLICK shutdown. Want it? Free at :

I would like to thank Viking for the assistance.

The MSKB article 273746 did the job.

I removed all programs from the StartUp directory and the problem went away.

After adding programs back into the StartUp directory, I found that US Robobics Instant Reminder.exe was the problem.

I will tell US Robotics about the problem.

Thanks again to Viking
