Hey guys, I got a question about installing a new CD burner and keeping my existing CD-ROM. The question is that how can I listen to audio CD from both of the CD drive. I am talking about the cable that came with the CD-ROM drive with two small squarish connectors at either end, that I have to connect one end to the CD drive and the other end to the sound card in order to listen to audio CD. So, if I have already connected the cable between the sound card and my existing CD-ROM drive, then what can I do if I want to play an audio CD from my new install CD burner. Is there any way that I can connected the cable so I'll have the choise to choose which CD-ROM or CD burner that I want to play my audio CD from without restricting myself to only one of them.

Thanks,

Blue

You can't just attach the second cd-player (rom or writer) to the soundcard, but I heard of something that you can attach to the soundcard to be able to attach 2 audiocables
It's not just a splitter, but a module, where you can attach the cables.

Or else,perhaps this is something:

Seems you will have to make it yourself...

It can also depend on the soundcard you have. I have the SB Live! and it can have 2 cd-roms plugged into into it. Check to make sure your soundcard doesn't already have 2 places to plug the audio cable into.

Thanks guys, I'll have a good look at my sound card see whether I have two CD-ROM plug in slots.

And Johan, I am not trying to mix the audio signal from two CD-ROM drives together. All I want is to enable both of CD-ROM and CD burner to play audio CD (but not at the same time).

I am just wondering if I can plug the cable into the "AUX IN" or "CD SPDIF" in order for it to work, if my sound card don't have a 2nd "CD IN" slot.

Thanks,

Blue

I think using the aux will work just fine. It wouldn't hurt to try it. Try the cd spdif also if the aux doesn't work.

Yes, either jack will work. Have a SB Live Platinum 5.1 with CD-RW, CD-ROM, and DVD all attached, and have even used the phone input (TAD) with no loss of quality
