When i try to burn some audio tracks or any other data off my hard drive i am getting a buffer underrun error. This should not happen because i am burning the files off my hard drive so the data should be getting to the burner quick enough
I have tried burning a lot of different data and audio without success. I don't think it is my burner because it can read CD's and can erase CD/RW's.
I think that my hard drive is running slow or something. I have recently added a second hard drive to my system. After installing it i was able to burn fine. When installing the drive i had to twist the IDE cable in order to attatch the slave part to my hard drive. I am thinking that this has damaged it or something?? Its weird though because it worked fine after i installed it, but now which is about 1 month later my drives seem to be not functioning properly
When i try and copy large files to a different part of my hard drive it is taking a long time approx 10 mins for 650MB of files.
Do you think i might have to buy a new IDE cable or might it be my burner??

Try burning at the lowest speed...if it works, then you should increase the speed until the error occurs, then you know how fast it works. I know you think the pc is fast enought, but sometimes it works like mine...I have a athlon 1.2ghz with an old Backpack...I can't burn at any speed greater than 2X, period. The two devices just don't work well together.

Yeah cheers ill give it a go. The thing is i know that it can burn at that speed because i have burnt hundreds of CD's with it before it has only just started doing this recently. It is an external USB burner whih burns at 4X.
I have just formated my PC and re-installed windows now about 3 times trying to work out the problem.

hello
what ever hd is faster ie:ata 66 ata 100 ata 133 ata166 if you have an ata 66 and a ata133 you should have the ata133 as master and the ata66 as slave. the system will only run as fast as master drive can handle.
just a thought
