Try using a program called Partition Magic. This will work. You might be able to download a trial version at www.download.com

Look for a program that can handle hard drive partitioning without data loss. I would suggest Partition Magic from Powerquest (for windows). It is a very easy tool to work with. For example, if you want to divide your harddisk in to parts, you can to the folowing:First you should defragment you hard disk. (I suggest to scan for errors too) Then start partition magic(close all other programs); you can just start changing your partitions, or you can use a wizard. I'll exlpain what to do if you change the partitions manually.First you have to resize your first (only) partition: click on the partition and then choose resize/move in the operation-menu. Change the new size to the amount you want (the free space after will be used for the new partition). Then U have to create an extended partition. Click on the grey partition that has come after your first (primary) partition and then choose "create" in the operation-menu. Choose for a locical partition and choose the appropriate partition type (for windows: fat for a partition smaller than 1.2GB or fat32 for bigger partitions) and press OK. Now you see how your harddisk will be partitioned when you apply the changes. Note that there will nothing be changed untill you confirm to apply your changes. You can always discard the changes. If partition magic gives an error, try using the bootdisks(these work almost always). If u want to use another program, it is almost the same. (DON'T USE FDISK).
