First :- Had a virus, ended up doing a format of C drive. Loaded ME again but hard drive only shows 2Gb when it is actually 30 Gb. Had a dig around and found it is formatted to FAT 16 and needs to be FAT 32. How do I change it ?
Second :- Got an additional drive from sombody upgrading an XP system. Fitted it and it shows in the BIOS but not under windows. More rooting around and found it has been formatted as NTFS which I belive ME can`t read, How do I change this to FAT 32 ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Mal Vicars

First Part: Help about FAT to FAT32 should be there in windows help. Anyway you can do that either using cvt.exe (windows\command) or using Partition Magaic.
Second: No application from windows can do that. However Partition Magic can.
But if you have no data on NTFS HD you can simply format it or partition followed by format it. Again if Windows XP is already installed on NTFS HD on converting to FAT32 you probabily (...Probably) willl not be able to boot from it.

Firstly you need to shift that virus in the master boot record of the hard drive, boot up the pc from a boot disk containing the FDISK.COM file. Now type at the A:\>
FDISK /MBR (note space between K and /MBR)
Now you should be able to use FDISK to partition the drive and format to the correct size, make sure the BIOS recognises the actual size of the drive.
As for the 2nd problem:
Converting a partition from FAT32 to NTFS can be done by an inbuilt utility in the Windows XP operating system — but it is important to realise that it is a one-way process. You cannot convert back, except possibly by use of Partition Magic 7.01, and that is not always successful. Windows has no tool for converting from NTFS to FAT32.
( see http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.php for serious precautions before even thinking about this )Hope this helps Mal,
Mark

Firstly thanks to the people who replyed. Made progress with your help.
2nd problem is cured. Used a ME startup disk with FDISK to remove a "non DOS Partition". Then created a "primary DOS partition". From windows was then able to format. Drive is now reported correctly in windows.
1st problem :- Again used Me startup disk and typed CVT C: All appeared ok and it went through the conversion process 16 to 32 FAT. Boot to windows and the drive is visible and now FAT 32 but still only 2Gb. Again 30Gb in BIOS.
Been reading that virus S/W can maybe affect all type of stuff this and I do have norton on C. Any more sugestions please?
