If your the same Tim that posted yesterday I gave you a link to read through. If you re read response # 2 onwards and in particular response # 5. It could throw some light on the problems your having - and I stress "could". ...Click on link below.

If you have got the problems I describe in the above post (# 4), then I really do feel for you, as there is no sure fire way to fix it.
If you can think of anything else that you have seen it say or do, then post it here.

I doubt it, the contents of your HDD should still be there. Do you have a full ME cd ? Does it let you boot up with the cd - ie, can you run setup.
As this will tell you if you have an operating system still there.
2 options should come up.
Exit (recommended) and carry on with install. Click Exit.

it says volume in drive y is RESTORE 21 welcome to the system restore pack this disk provides several methods of recoverring your system (1) second chance uses this to set your computer's software to a previously known good state (2) restore this will return the cotents of your hard drive to a basic set of the operating system and drivers you will need to reinstall applications and data files then it says to presss either 1 for second chance, press two for restore or 3 to return to command prompt

when trying to use second chance it says second chance not installed.

Get your ME Start disk and boot up with it. Choose the "with cd support" option. When you get to the A:\> prompt - type -

scandisk /all

There's a space after disk and before /

Report back EXACTLY what happens.

If it runs cleanly (which I doubt) at the end of the scan it will ask you if you want to do a surface scan. Choose yes. Be prepared for a long(ish) wait.

Report back again with all the details.

If you are on an ME machine Now.
Get a new floppy disk, put it in the slot. Click, Start >> Settings >> Control panel >> Double Click "Add and Remove Programs" >> Click "Startup Disk" tab >> Click, "Create Disk"

If you ran ZAP_HDD.com, and successfully completed all of the steps, then you have erased your hard drive. I believe that this file is distributed by Dell for when you want to reset to factory settings.
