Hang up after DMI pool

Specs: Windows XP
My computer was working fine, I go somewhere to do something, then I come back and try and boot the computer and no luck. It basically gets past the DMI pool bit without a problem, but when it goes to choose a boot device it freezes. It wont allow me to boot from CD with the disk in, so I don't think it's anything with the hard drive (which is new anyways). I tried changing the boot priority in my BIOS and completely resetting them as well.

Basically looks like:

DMI pool verification.....
Boot from CD
(^ flashes for a couple seconds then disappears as comp freezes.)

If it's hard drive, floppy, or removable it says nothing in place of the Boot from CD.

The difference was literally less than 30 minutes from it working, me turning it off normally and now this. I've tried everything I can think of including checking the connections of everything inside the computer as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Temporarily disconnect the cdrom and see if it boots OK from the hard drive. If not, reconnect the cdrom and disconnect the hard drive and see if it boots from the cdrom. If you get it to successfully boot from one media then the other must be the problem.

Disconnect the floppy as well, just in case.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
