After installing an Intel® Pocket PC Camera and supporting software on my Hp Athlon running Me I noticed system preformance problems and failed reboots. So I ran Norton system works and it came up with an unfixable problem contact vendor. "usbcam6 unable to locate hal.dll." I wasted a long distance phonecall to intel. Their tech support is dismal at best. They did'nt have a solution but told me they have a hotplug issue on Athlons ie don't plug the cam in untill booting up and unplug before shutting down. I think the Hal.dll has something to do with version number and NT uses it but maybe not Me. Is this software confusing Me with Nt? Does anyone know of a fix short of returning the cam, which does work and has a pretty good picture?

I have the exact same problem with an HP Pavilion 8776C and Intel Pocket PC Camera. After installation, Norton Windoctor reports the problem that lcam6usb.sys cannot find the file hal.dll. My son swears that system performance has been sluggish every since we installed the camera, but I can't verify this.

I had the same issue with the hal.dll and the intel camera. My resolution was to search on-line for a hal.dll, place it in my windows system directory and restart. Ran Norton again, no issues and the computer is even running more quickly.
Hope this helps. I forgot the site for the dll. Searched under Yahoo. I can also e-mail the one I have.

I have the same problem where did you find the hal.dll online, I have been looking for 3 weeks now and can not find it, or do I just reinstall my Intel pocket camera software to fix the missing file?

The HAL.DLL (Hardware Abstraction Layer dynamic link library) error message results from the structuring of the Intel(R)Camera driver in conjunction with Norton SystemWorks*. HAL.DLL is a Windows NT* system file; Norton SystemWorks* believes that the file needs to be present, but it does not. This does not affect the functionality of the camera, and it is safe to ignore the error.

So, the error is obvious with Norton's software, not Intel's.

Actually, I just checked Microsoft Support (see http://support.microsoft.com) and they say to update the hal.dll file. So it looks like it is THEIR error, not Intel's.

Support Document "HAL Options After Windows XP Setup (Q309283)"

Funny how everyone wants to find the easy answer, rather than the correct one, and blame the camera maker.
