My hard drive broke last night so I took my old hard drive out of my old Computer 2.5G, installed Windows Me so I could take care of stuff, Got New Hard Drive, but My QUESTION IS, if I take this 2.5 hard drive out of my Computer with the Operating System on it, will it work as is in the old Computer, or do I have to reinstall over again in that one, I just want it working so I can sell it or use it for Grandkids......Other words can I just take it out and put it in there.?Or do I just need to reinstall completely.....Think the answer will be yes?

No, if you put back that old hard drive that you took from the old computer and installed windows on it while it was on the newer computer back to the old computer it will not work, windows would go nuts believe me, since all the config is different. The only time that would be possible would be if you had 2 EXACT same pc. So you have to reformat it after putting it back in the old pc.

Now for a third view. It may work or it may not. Depends on the different hardware between the two systems and the system board chip sets. If enought of the hardware is the same, the Windows may be able to reconfigure itself and run. If not, then it will just crash. You really have little to lose by trying it. If it does not work well, then reformat and install again. You should be getting experianced at that by now.

if you remove all pci cards and external drives printers exctera in the new computer
and reboot with out them in there than shut off computer remove the 2.5 gig drive now windoz wont be looking for your new machines hard ware on start up.
next befor puting in old hard drive in old computer remove all uneeded pci cards ect. and install old hard drive.reboot less things for windoz to fined and have trubles.
than shut computer off if it worked and did not have to fight with drivers and things add modem first reboot. goto add new hard ware.and use wizzerd. do the same with any other cards drives and printers .
this will most likely work, if both machenes use pentium or both amd .
you will mostlikely have to do some updateing ect.
ive cloned drive image on my new computer to new drive and had this work several times.on older computers.that were rated high enough.
have a nice day
