Word Files in "My documents" have all been changed from their original texts/formats to gobbledegook. What have I done? How can I undo it?

I sounds like there has been a change in the program that is being used to open *.doc files. If you are using Windows ME as your posting suggests, go to Windows Explorer, go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to the *.doc file type and if it shows that a program other than Word or Wordpad is being used to open the *.doc files, click on the "Change" button and select the appropriate program. Be sure there is a check mark in the box directing that program to ALWAYS use that frogram for *.doc files.

Hope this solves yoe problem.
