Have Ghost 51d now, getting 2002 Tuesday and ME disk.

The only thing I am confused on is:

1. If I Ghost current drive, Presario, Compaq, bios all on chip per Compaq, Primary C and Extended with D current sizes are as such:

C: 37,000 rounded 37 gigs.
D: 3,000 rounded 3 gigs.

Plan to ghost them as separate partitions and restore as separate in case of disaster.

2. If I reparttion as such:

C: 10,000 mb
2 5,000 mb
3 15,000 mb
4 10,000 mb

Should I wish to go back to original C/d image, if I restore image to partition, will ghost leave my original size partitions that I created or, say if I restore D which is 3 gigs and my partition size is 5 gigs will gost make it the 3 gigs or will it leave it the 5 gigs and only use the 3 gigs for the image.

Any help, thanks.

To the best of my knowledge ghost only duplicates the info on your disc. It will not adjust your partition sizes. If you have 3 gig of info on your c drive the ghost image is 3 gig.
Remember also you can only image to a separate partition or drive.
Hope this helps

Thanx.

With 51.d Ghost I did make an image of D to C as my C is rather big, don't know why for the life of me they did it this way!!!!! and my D is so small.

I am awaiting 2002 as it has the CDR support for burning directly to CDR although once I am able to repartition same hard drive appropriately the more efficient way that I want I can then safely image to separate partition and then burn. I am reserving one partition for the backup and CDR images, but the way my hard drive is set up I can't image C to the the C and D is not large enough!!!!!!!!

From what I am hearing, can't wait to get the Compaq stuff off!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Want to try different operating systems as well.

Thanx, hope everyone had a good 4th.

Ghost will let you resize partitions. You can also Ghost the whole drive or just a certain partition.

Your restore feature won't work that way, If you have the Compac disks you don't need to copy the drive the Compaq disks will restore your drive back to factory settings as long as nothing such as drive has changed. You can fdisk and partition as you like if you have a Retail oper system to put on, then if things don't go right or you are unhappy, you can use the restore disks from Compaq, it will fdisk and partition it back to normal and put all the stuff back on. (So really all you need it the Compaq disks for safekeeping. By the way your d drive is a image of Compaq programs and partition info, it is somewhat compressed.

Sue, I have an disc coming for ME Tuesday, so what u r telling me I could repartition and format the whole drive and my 2 Compaq restore discs will put it all back even after reformating the whole drive.

I have used the Restore discs many times, but wanted to just have the operating system and not Compaq's stuff. If I can reformat and ghost the drive even if restore doesn't work any more, no biggy, it didn't work half the time anyway even with the patch!!!!!!!

But I did think that once u reformated a Compaq after 99 with bios on chip, per Compaq, that the restore and recovery cd's wouldn't work.

Thanks!!!!!!
