I had a run in with a virus(or something)earlier today, I was lucky enough to get the system boot disk into safe mode, where I restored to a point yesterday that was safe. Now that I've satisified myself that my puter is clean I want to delete any prior points due to the bad one this morning, and then establishing a new 'clean' point now.
Whacha think,
Thanks,
Erin

Simply open System Restore, and create a new restore point three times. The system only keeps 3 restore points, so each restore point you create, bumps an old one off the list.

The simplest way of getting a 'clean' Sys.Rest. is to disable it, re-boot immediately, then re-enable it and again re-boot immediately. You will then have a 'new' System Restore with just one current checkpoint.
System Restore makes a System Checkpoint once every 24 hours and every 10 hrs of continuous use. The total number of checkpoints points stored depends upon the amount of space you have allocated to it and how frequently you create manual points.
To disable, R.click My Computer\Properties\Performance\File System\Troubleshooting.
You can set allocated space while you're there (File System\Hard Disk)Lesley

Thank you,all,..Al that is a interesting idea,
Lesley, I found the shut off restore button, but I remember doing this once before, where there is a tab which would remove the current restore file,(too clean it up)..it was so easy to do that I forgot where that delete restore tab is??
thanks all,Erin

Erin
The above proceedure will create a new, clean _RESTORE folder, you don't need to delete anything. (I don't know what 'delete restore tab' you're talking about)
Lesley

Al... wherever did you get that information from and how do you explain the fact that I have 11 restore points on my system?

Ewens right, I have restore points from last week still there,( and I trim'd down the amount of space allocated to Restore ). Lesley I'll try your method,
Ciao,
Erin

I think Al is referring to the Registry restore (Scareg \Restore)which has five points stored of which you can restore four (I understand that the 5th one is destroyed in the process of restoring).
The registry restore is a FIFO system but so also is System Restore. I have over a months worth on my calendar which is far too many but the slider jumps in big leaps so with a large Hard Disk I've left it at 883Lesley

Hey guys and Gals....this is easy:
Go to: Start>All Programs>Accesories>System Tools>Clean UP>More Options>System Restore>Clean UP. This will get rid of all Restore Points EXCEPT the most recent. Hope this helps.. also..bring the slider down to the minimum (200 megs) in the restore options..that's all most users will need...L8TR.
