I have a friend at the office with ME who needed to be able to access his email on his home pc, so as the first step I changed the setting in Outlook to keep the mail on the server (tools, accounts, mail, properties, advanced, then I put a check in "leave a copy of messages on server".) After that I was going to go to his house and set up his outlook there, but the problem is that now he gets TWO emails from every sender. Now, he has his own domain and gets his email from there and I'm wondering if that's the problem. Maybe whoever hosts his email ALREADY keeps a copy of each message on server and so if you select that option in outlook you end up getting TWO emails per sender? I'd appreciate any suggestions as I feel pretty foolish about him getting two emails.

POP3 server or Exchange Server?
Reson being:
POP3 servers are configured for that option to be handled by the user...or in this case Outlook with the "leave copy of message on server". When leaving a copy on the server, everytime Outlook checks for new email it will re-download the email still out there on the server (unless the provider has it set to change the status of the message to READ and no longer NEW after it is downloaded the first time). With and Exchange server, the server IS set to keep the messages on the server (this way you may access the emails and folders from anywhere on the network -- or if it is allowed, from anywhere in the internet as well).
I would first take off that option and see if he stops getting double emails... if he does, then you're all set. If not, I would check with the provider of the email service if is POP3, and with the Network Admin if on an Exchange Server from work/school or something.

I just had that problem at my office.
It seems that virus software I installed had change some of my pop3 settings and was unable to communicate correctly with the mail server. When you recieve the mail your comp has to tell the mail server it got the mail if it doesnt next time it checks you'll recieve mail all over again. Talk to whoever knows what setting should be on your e-mail prog and that should take care of it.
