This is a Gateway Solo 5300 with Win ME. I can't get the Ethernet adapter to work. How can I be sure I have an adapter in this laptop? The plug is there to accept an ethernet cable. Your help is appreciated.

I did find a neat freeware package called Belarc Advisor which provides a complete listing of both hardware and software installed. I plan to run it on the ME system but am surprised that there would be an ethernet connection port without the hardware adapter but apparently that is the way Gateway does their "thing". Perhaps this is an industry standard. I think my only choice is to purchase an ethernet card. Thanks for your help.
