Sue,
My advice would be to try a bunch of them and see what you like best.My first attempt at an FTP server took me several to find one I liked. While many like CuteFTP and Leech,I found G6(now Bulletproof FTP)to be the easiest to set up nad use.Its a personal thing really,go here>>

and try a bunch of them until you find one you like.

Ok Sue,
First of all, I assume u have downloaded from LeechFTP's webpage (http://stud.fh-heilbronn.de/~jdebis/leechftp/downloads.html), dont you? If you do, make sure you download the yellow box written 'LeechFTP 1.3 build 207' with 620 KB big and named 'ftp13.zip'. NOT the blue box. It is for language addon. You will get dll errors when you try to unpack Language Addon before you install the core program.
I have just tried it for myself and it works well.
If you still have difficulties to download, please give me ur email address and I will send you the app.
LeechFTP even works well under Win2000 and WinXP. For Win Me, it is also no problem, I just install and try it on my own maschine.

Feel free to ask, Sue.

Hi ya Jimi,
I think what Sue needs is not FTP Server app but FTP client. She just wanna to upload and download from her friend's shared folders, therefore she need FTP client, not FTP Server (She has told about it on the previous post).

Can a FTP Client do things that FTP Server does? Could you please tell me how?

Hi,
I'm afraid I dont understand the question completely.
I would assume software that was STRICLTY client would be for browsing, downloading and uploading from FTP sites.IE has this ability but is hard on servers and wasnot really designed for this specifically.
All the server software I have used (which includes all you mentioned) does this with more options basiclly.Continue partial downloads, choose a particular port to assign, manage files a little more efficently, etc etc. In addition it can also be set up as a server to allow file sharing FROM you as opposed to just being a modified browser to other peoples sites.

I hope this is what you ment in your question.

Hi ya Jimi,

You are really make me very interested, buddy. Can you tell me how to upload and download a specific files to another server using BPFTP Server (www.bpftpserver.com)?
From their website, you should pay 29.95 US$ in order to register it. And it is the same with BPFTP (www.bpftp.com---their FTP client product). If an FTP Server app can do what FTP Client app does such as downloading and uploading files to another host, that means I just need pay 29.95 US $ rather than 59.90 US $ for both products.
I have also tried another FTP Server apps such as Serv-U FTP Daemon, and WarFTPD and still have no idea how to upload and download files to another host.

Please tell me how in specific and step by step..:-))

Thanks for your help and infos.

San

Sorry to disappoint but that is WAY beyond the scope of this forum.
Just download it and try it out.You wont "master" it right away but you'll get it.The instructions are very good.
If you get stuck then drop me a line.

Hi Jimi,
I have download and install it. I even use BPFTP Server every day in order to share my files with my friends. BPFTP Server is very familiar to me. And even that, I have no idea how to upload and download files to another host using BPFTP Server or other FTP Server apps.
Please tell me how to do it step by step.
I think this is still relevant with this forum...it is nothing personal ...it is just general knowledge in computing.
Could you please tell me how to do it?

San

G6 is a bad example as it is broken up into two.Use CuteFTP or SmartFTP or some of others that are multi listed on the link I posted above.

Hi Jimi,

I am really confused now.
CuteFTP and SmartFTP are examples for FTP client not FTP Server app. Of course I know how to download and upload files using FTP client. But you said (#7) that a FTP Server app can do what FTP Client does. So please tell me how to do it under FTP Server app.

Uuuhh Sorry, but I think my English is too bad.

From what I see from Google and MS site about IPv6, I think it is just a kind of new IP stack.
MS would be very generous if they will give plugin for everyone so that everybody can have FTP Server freely. Hmm...their IIS will be dismissed in markets..:-))

Hmmm..could u tell me how to use IPv6 as FTP Server?
Should I run it under MS Prompt or under IE? Can I use it with Opera?

Thanks for your advices and time.

Best Regards,
San

I use SMTP as an ftp client and IPX as an ftp server. Of course, notepad.exe can do both, but I don't like the interface.

Hmmm...Sue, If I may suggest you, dont do something basic such as Operating System. It will give you headache than good.
Maybe your Winsock file have been corrupted?
Ok...then go to http://www.bitbeamer.com/en/support.html and download and install Winsock 2 update for Win 95 (and if possible you can also HTML Help update and Common Control Update.
Then try to reinstall LeechFTP.
If you got errors again, post back.
If you intend to use BitBEamer, let me know, so that I can email you a little files.

Yes I know...Jan Debis, a very good programmer, in my opinion stated that 'The King Is Dead'. It means the development of LeechFTP wont be further continued. But he makes a new generation of LeechFTP named BitBeamer.
Sue, dont worry if LeechFTP is too old. WS_FTP LE is older than LeechFTP and it works well. The most important is LeechFTP works its great job and it has feature that another FTP Client doesnt have and it has the best price: FREE.
If you prefer the latest FTP Client app, than u should try BitBeamer, but it is not free. You should pay some $$ in order to register. Well, I think, as for you, LeechFTP is more than enough. Why should you pay more $$$ if can get full featured app that is FREE? Even it is so featured that i bet u wont use all of that features.
So Sue, go to: http://stud.fh-heilbronn.de/~jdebis/leechftp/downloads.html
to download LeechFTP and please download from the blue box not the yellow one. Intall it just after you have installed WinSock and other update.

Hey..u are using the right Zip app, Sue. Ultimate Zip, I believe, from its interface and capability is PowerArchiver. Now PowerArchiver is a commercial app and perhaps there are some good people out there that make it another name.
Ok..I will give you hints how to extract and install using Zip app.
First open ftp13.zip (LeechFTP zip file that you just downloaded from the net). OR open UltimateZip than click 'open' and then choose ftp13.zip.
Second highlight all of the data (first click on the readme.txt and then hold shift key and click on unrar.dll) Now the files should be blue highlighted.
Third click on extract button on toolbar.
Fourth choose the location where you wanna store unpacked file.
Fifth, close Ultimate Zip.
Sixth, go to the place where u unpack the files.
Seventh double click on Setup.exe.
Eight, follow the instruction and u r ready to install.

If you still have problem, feel free to ask, Sue.
