From reading alot of these post for weeks people are mostly having problems with ME because they did not read up on the OS before buying it. Did not once think about compatibility issues etc. Microsoft put it as plain as day in you peoples faces to read & what did you do? Rush out & buy it anyway. This is not Microsofts fault because you did not care to read a little. Bill Gates did not put a gun to your head & make you buy it. It was YOUR choice & you have to suffer the consequences. So quit complaining. The latest OS is not always better like it claims to be. I did not upgrade and chose to stay with my former OS which I think was a wise choice. I did read & visited alot of sites on the matter & decided it was not in my best interest. Why couldn't you people do the same? Would have fifty something more extra dollars in your pocket if you actually thought a little bit.

I read from alot of these post alot of people went through all the troubles & hassles of Me to just play some games. I have actually read this. Very smart move indeed. I would keep throwing out buggy OS to if I knew illiterate people were going to buy it.

It is truely unfair to call people illiterate just because they purchase a new OS. Every new OS has a few problems that can't always be forseen by the company but ME has a majority of problems rarely seen in a new OS. So please give some of us a break.
Alan

NOWHERE IN THE LITERATURE OR ANYTHING ELSE I READ DID IT SAY IT WOULD RESET YOUR (PREVIOUSLY WORKING) HAND CONFIGURED IO/IRQ/BIOS SETTINGS!!!! Show me and I will eat these words! (Good Luck because the WinMe trained techs and microsoft support I called all said the same thing. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, WinMe will not accept them if it "thinks" what it has is better. Well, time to finish reloading Win98 and Linux and enjoy the weather.

Jezzabelle,
What made you want to upgrade to ME if '98 & Linux were functioning properly. I am using a previous version of Windows & when ME came out I did not think of upgrading because my operating system was performing to my satisifaction.

I think it is the excitement of having a new operating system on there machines. Mind you now, when '95 & '98 were released I remember seeing forums with major problems like with Me. I remember. Give it some time more patches & drivers will be released & 80% of problems will be solved. That is what I am waiting for.

Quit buying Microsoft products & they will go bankrupt. Not! because seems to me everyone complains about Microsoft continuously but when the next operating system is released they run out & buy it. What gives people? What do you want? Either you like Microsoft and you are going to continue to buy there products or not. If you are going to complain, & when the next OS is released go buy it then just shut up.

This is the last post you will see from me in this forum (so bear with me). Why did I switch to WinMe? I didn't. My kid thought it would enhance his gaming experience, so he pooled his money with his brothers and bought it. They installed it but did not reaalize the impact it would have. I found this out when I came home and saw some changes to both OS I had not initiated. I tried to uninstall it and revert to 98 but it was such a hassle, I backed everything up to CD and took the system down and reloaded Win98 and Linux via clean install for both with no problems. And no I don't want to hear crap about my kids, pc security etc....because it's no one's business but my own. My OS problems have been fixed. Have yours? BTW....they exchanged the Win(BLOWS)Me for Baldur's Gate 2. So now everyone here is happy and wiser : ^)

Dear Jez. Glad things worked out. Also, happy to hear that the store was willing to do an exchange. (I personally know of three in San Francisco that will never do this for an OS once the package has been opened.) Anyway, nice knowning you albeit by posted messages, and if you ever have any problems, feel free to drop a line here. Most people will try to help you out.

What about those poor souls that have just purchased a new machine and had no other choice for a home operating system?
Putting the blame on the consumer is BUNK!
A new operating environment should not be released until it is stable and at most major hardware manufacturers have stable drivers for it. This was not the case and was not documented.

I ordered my new pc from Dell & they gave me a choice of what OS I wanted '98 or ME. So look around because they all dont force ME on you.

Seems like the person that took offense to ME should be mad at her children because they are the cause. My children KNOW not to ever touch my pc let alone install an operating system without my permission because they know what would happen to them. I bought them a used PC a month or so ago so they would have there own so if they screw it up its them.

I buy the latest OS to keep up with what is current, and I buy from Microsoft because there is no one else.
I don't like where we seem to be headed which is to large hard drives containing files that are invisible to DOS using OSs that will not let themselves be configured.
Any day I expect Microsoft to come out with a hard drive with the latest version of Windows burned into it someway that none of the Windows directroy files will copy anywhere. But it will be stable because the outer edge of the drive platters where Windows is located are some kind of CD-R material.
Should we buy it?

How is it benefiting you keeping up with what is current because software is still out there for '95 & '98. There are also other OS. I use '95 & Linux. No more Windows upgrades for Me.

I was in a local PC store yesterday to pick up some floppies, and overheard a salesman telling a customer the following:
1> That the WinMe upgrade would fix all the problems she was having with Win98.
2> That WinMe was "complete and self-installing." (He said this twice.)
3> That no experience was required because WinMe sets itself up automatically.
(I butted in at this point and told the lady to check out this web site if she wasn't sure.)
Maybe the problem isn't so much WHAT is sold, but HOW it is sold?

Agree with Tom. We tend to lose site of the fact that nearly HALF the people in this country don't own PCs, and will believe what they are told when they first buy one.
Going back some seven years, when I bought my first PC, an IBM PS1, the salesman told me, "There's nothing you can do to screw it up, because it fixes itself automatically!"
They still use this line today. Don't believe me? Check out the Home Shopping Network.

Good point Tom & Bob. Also remember salesmen will say anything to make a sell. You cannot listen to them. Also great point about the IBM ps/1. I have one & it is still going after all these years with all the original hardware & software. They dont make them like that anymore.
