I'm setting a computer up for a family member, and a millisecond after it has finished scanning for Plug and Play devices, and asks for a username and password, in Windows ME set-up, the monitor switches off and doesn't come back on. I have tried two monitors. Any suggestions on the cause, and a way to fix this problem?

Joe, what if you were to delete that user account and create another? Sounds to me like some setting or other is amiss in that account.

I'm installing ME on a machine with a blank HD - no user accounts.

what type of video card is in the PC? Check the bios settings for it incase you need to disable an onboard card (I know its a stretch but you have to start somewhere)

If you start the pc and go into the bios, does the monitor stay on indefinately?

To be honest, on this machine I can't see any obvious ways to enter the BIOS, nor can I see the machine's model number. It is a very strange machine, it doesn't boot to CDs.

I've had the machine on for lengthy periods in DOS, and no OS state.
