Start, Run , type MSCONFIG , when the system configuration utility opens , click on the startup tab , see how many applications are set to run at startup. Take note of the items listed ! I would themn go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base and read up on the MSCONFIG. Alot of programs you install often run something at startup and you can eliminate most of these except for maybe some of the Anti-Virus stuff. Be careful not to remove needed windows process stuff. I have my MSCONFIG down to loading 5 items at startup . It had eleven things checked to run at startup ! Good Luck

Like Trev would say,,,,,,,,
9. Disable unnecessary programs in startup by going to Start, Run, type msconfig press enter, go to Startup tab, uncheck any unnecessary programs, especially PCHealth, Load power profile (usually there twice), Scheduling agent, anything that mentions scheduling. Look at http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for detailed advice on this. The freeware program End it All can also be useful for this and is available here http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/enditall/

I would not delete the power profiles, unless you just accept the defaults.. I have mine all set to "never", and you have to load the power profiles to maintain that..

also, disable PC Health, but DO NOT delete the registry entries for it, or you will find that Help and Support no longer works.
