hi,
i've got a big problem. Whenever i have to reset(not reboot) my pc because of freezing or whatever, i go back to check disk space and i end up looseing more then a gig. it can go back up for the same reson sometimes too but never really fixes itself. it only does this after i have to rest it and scandisk and defrag are useless. Restore's not running either.

Any ideas how i can fix this?thanks

First you need to understand why Windows "freezes up" like that to start with, causing you to have to warm-restart the pc.

When it's running, have a look at what processes are running by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and looking at the programs list.
Make a note of what's there.

Do not "End Task" for either EXPLORER or SYSTRAY as Windows will crash without either of these. You may have additional programs loaded and running which your own particular system requires, check

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm

for a list of good, bad and dangerous items to be listed in your startup keys in the registry.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on and definitely run the following scans for viruses, trojans and spyware - I have taken WawaDave's cut 'n paste list for you to have a look at as follows (Thanks Dave)...

hi, I ran most of the links above and they turned up negitive. i usuially try to keep an eye on running prgms, and try to keep the resources free. For freezing, it usuially happens for mundane reasons like scrolling with the mouse wheel on certain webpages or an overload on the graphics card from frame rates. but how can the space be affected and go up or down due to reseting.

Could this be a hardware problem?
