i have windows me and i want to format my c drive so i went to ms_dos but every time i try it says drive c: is currently in use by another process so it aborts it. how do i format it?

you have to use a windows start up disc with cd rom support. you can't do it straight from dos, because your operating system is being used.
i could give you step by step instructions, but i must warn you before hand.
do you know how to install drivers for your system? do you have all the latest drivers on cd/floppy?
if the answer is no to any of these questions, then you are in for a shock and would be advised NOT to format your hard drive by yourself, or alternatively get details of how to deal with driver installation.
also make sure your cd rom is 100% reliable.
let me know if you understand what i am saying, and we'll take it from there.
