I have a quick question. do i have to format my drive if i have maxtors max blast software. correct me if im wrong but isnt formating the same as partitioning

first you partition, then you format. 2 different things. but i think maxblast can do that for you as well. at least it used to.

I think so because i didn't have to format the first time after it automatically partitioned. so i shouldn't have to do it again thanks

J Pud, when you format a drive, you clean that drive,ERASES EVERYTHING! That may or may not be a problem. If you have any files you would like to keep, it's a problem. When you create a partition, a format of the new partition is needed in order to prepare the new partition for use and let the drive know it's there. During the original format, the new partition didn't exist and as a result, the drive doesn't know it is there. Remember, you are dealing with a dumb rock. You must tell it everything! It knows nothing unless told! HTH. Ed in Texas.
