I want to completely wipe out my hard drive and reinstall ME. Whenever I try to format, the process aborts due to "a windows program is using the drive, format aborted". How do I get around this problem?

How are you trying to format?? You cannot format from windows, Get a floppy boot disk then boot your computer and follow the prompts then when you get a A:\ prompt , type format c: then hit enter and away you go

A little-known trick (for win 98 and ME, in XP it's common) is that you can also use your CD in win 98 and ME. Boot from it, abort the installation, then, at the prompt, type "format c:"
