Formerly VW/VLW. Hi, I'm back and thanks to everyone on this forum I managed to wipe my Compaq Presario 50008US of all the Compaq bog me downs and construct the drive the way I wanted. I had no problems fdisking and formating, backed up my drivers, although my modem was the only thing not detect. I had to reseat the modem and windows would not autodetect the location of the drivers for the modem so I had to point it in the right direction. I SURVIVED MY FIRST AND AM DRINKING A DAQUAIRI TO BOOT. Thanks guys and gals for such a great forum, I did not think I could do it. This has given me the confidence to excel into even more challenging things. Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also did that a couple of months ago and turned out great, you must also look up Trevs Tweeks and do them, (all of them) they really make our machines run fast and good after doing them go to pcpitstop and have a check up for any fine tuning. Works great. Sue

Also Norton Ghost is the greatest, I have 2 sets of ghost images, 2 for the old with the Compaq stuff on it and 2 with the current configuration. I can not believe the time it takes to restore a drive, compared to 1 1/2 for restore disks and +++++++++ for programs!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ghost is a must.

Yes Ghost is good, but I just could not understand it too good, I have PowerQuest Drive Image that does the same thing but I think the instructions are for the less informed person like me...Think they are both great though. I also did the same thing, just incase....but ever since I took all the Compac stuff off I don't think I will ever go back.
