My sister put a Windows password at startup when she got the computer. And then she gave the computer to me when she went to college. However; she can't remember that password. Is this system totally inoperatable or can I fix it?

Can you click cancel when it asks for the password. If so, do this to remove the password: delete all *.pwl files in c:\windows directory.

Turn computer on and start pressing the f8 key every second until computer boots up.this should bring you into a maintenance screen.you should have a tab to click on that says passwords.do this and remove all passwords.restart and you should be fine.there is another way which involves taking cover off computer and moving the jumper on the motherboard and restarting but i would not suggest this unless you know what you are doing.

Lindsey, smithdk is right. Just click cancel when that login comes up. You can then go into the Control Panel and users section and set it for all users to use the same settings.
