Subject: font problem in win me dialogues
OS: Windows Me
CPU/Ram: 1Ghz,256Mb
Model/Manufacturer: Gateway
Comment:
Hello,

I'm having a problem with the font displayed in some standard Windows Me dialog
screens, such as the Home Networking Wizard and the login screen of Msn Messenger.
They only show blocks.

1. What font does Windows Me use for these dialogues?
2. Can I restore it by just downloading an uncorrupted/new font?

Thanks,

Overlordinca

overlordinca, you can set the default font to any you like in IE. Perhaps you simply need to choose another?

How many fonts do you have? Over 1000 can cause problems.

Try deleting C:\WINDOWS\ttfCache (you may need a boot disk to do this) and then reboot.

If that doesn't work, try this: You have 5 registry backups (by default). If this happened LESS than 5 days ago, go to start/run and type C:\WINDOWS\SCANREGW.EXE /restore
and pick the latest date the system was still running properly.

You could... but it's not typically necessary to specify the entire path & extension (or even the 'Windows version' of scanreg) - that's all taken care of when you enter into the 'run' box:

scanreg /restore

Of course it won't hurt to do it that way, but it's more than is needed - when 'scanreg' is run from Windows, the Windows version (scanregw) is automatically invoked

If running from a bootdisk, you would be obliged to use the 'DOS version' (without the extra 'w')
