Hi. I'm getting this problem with opening folders. It's been happening ever since I compacted my registry with Norton 2002 Utilities. When I try to open a folder it constantly brings up the "open with" window and the option to "always open with" box is always blanked out (heh, not that I'd know which the default program to always open with is). I tried restoring the registry and I only have backups of after the problem started (in all restore programs, yes Norton 2002 and scanreg /restore). What I'd like to know if its possible is what keys am I looking for? I know I may have to manually edit the registry and fix it myself.

Also I am missing the thumbnail option under view which I blame on the compaact of the registry too. Can any registry pros out there give me a clue?

Thank you for reading this.

But,make sure you leave a space after "scanreg".
(Same applies for scanreg /restore.)

Thanks. I tried all the scanreg tools before even posting the first message. What I'm really looking for is leads to where I can find the keys in the registry, so I can change these settings back to normal.

As far as the folder problem,maybe...Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab/Reset all folders? Does Norton have an option to "re-do" any changes? I can't remember,I'm up to 2004 now. Have you considered a system restore,if you have/had it enabled?
