Floppy drive wont work

hi all, Ive just put all my bits and bobs into a new case. Everything works fine apart from the floppy drive. When the comp looks for a floppy, the green light goes on but there is no motion and i am told to insert a floppy although there is one in. I have changed the cable with no joy, i was about to change the floppy when i noticed there is a pin missing from the floppy slot on the mobo. I cannot compare it with another as i dont have one. Is this normal or is it why its not working. The mobo is a GIGABYTE.
dont know much about your prob, but is the drive properly installed?
have a look under control panel/system/device manager
the floppy disk controller etc should all be working fine. Check they are and the drivers etc.

I had a similar problem, then I noticed that I had the ribbon cable plugged in upside down. If I remember right, the end with the twist should be connected to the floppy. And yes the one I had was missing a pin too if I remember correctly.
