Hello, I need to access important info. from a floppy disk and I just get no reponse at all from my drive. When I insert the floppy disk nothing happens, no noise or light. I could be doing something wrong but I don't know what. Thanks in advance.

If it can't read or write ANY disks at all, and there is no light, the power lead may have become loose or detached at the back. A simple thing to check but it involves opening the case WITH THE MAINS LEAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE WALL SOCKET!! If the floppy power connector is pushed in tight, then the drive is probably dead. They are probably the cheapest modular part of a PC and easy to fit.

Stan,
With the floppy disk in the drive, double-click My Computer and then double-click the 3½ Floppy (A:)Icon. What happens, when you do this? it's not like a mac;-) Is that what you're doing, and don't get any response.

Stan, you're welcome. Don't you just love, those golden moments ;-) I know I do, but, not right away. No, first comes the anger with myself, then a little internal chuckle at myself :-)
Take care S.T.A.R.
