I am using ME now, and when i look at a file's properties, there are two sizes given... a size and size on disk .... sometimes the sizes vary greatly! Can someone help me to understand the difference between the two? I can't seem to find an explanation in any of my books or the help files on the computer. Thank you !!

it is quite simply how it sounds, size on disk is how much room it takes on your hard drive and size is the actual size of the file if you were to copy it to disk or cd.

Disk storage systems arrange a number of blocks of a predetermined size on the hard drive. If the block size is 4k and you have a file which takes 7k in memory it will take up 8k (2x4k) on the hard drive.

Win ME FAT 32, minimum file size is 16K. So, if you have a one byte file, it takes up 16K. A 16,385 byte file (16K + 1 byte) takes up 32K. Thank Bill Gates & co.
