File Association Error

Comment:
When i double click an image file that has been associated to Paint Shop Pro an error comes up saying:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
When I go to the folder options thing and try to associated it I find it is already successfully associated. This happens with jpeg and bitmaps.
Also, if I try and open a file which has been associated to Paint it opens in Notepad.

i will answer your post... open a random folder goto tools then folder options..then goto the file types section. and fix the associations you need to fix manually.

When I got to the file associations menu the file types were already accosiated to Paint Shop Pro. But the error message still appears saying that they're not.

Do you have Tweak UI installed ? You could try running the Repair Associations utility located on the Repair tab.

Go into Folder Options / File Types and double click on the JPEG image Click OPEN in the Action box and then click EDIT Is the program path correctly written in the "Application used to perform action" box If not, browse to where the program exe is located on the hard drive.
Something else to look for...does Paint Shop Pro have a Preferences or Options, where you can set file associations ??

I managed to find my Paint Shop Pro Installation disks and have reinstalled it. It now seems to be accepting the files.
However I am still having problems with opening files associated to Paint. They open in Notepad. I think it may be due to some registry editing tool I used before.

Which file extensions are associated with Paint ? For each association, click on a file with that association eg mypic.bmp Then right click the file and hold shift, and left click to "open with" Choose MSpaint and see if this fixes things up. Make sure the box is checked that says "always use this program......"
Repeat for all file associations you want to open with Paint.
