Fdisk/Formatting/Instal Win ME Prob

I need help badly cause I am confused now, I recently got this 30 gig Maxtor hard drive and tryed to Fdisk/Formatting/Instal Win ME for my friend on my spare PC, now when I did all this my 30 gig hard drive is now only 8 gigs??? I think maybe when I did the Fdisk I choose the wrong settings... anybody know the problem??? also since installing windows ME on this hard drive will the hard drive work okay in another computer ???? Thanks any help appreciated.

In fdisk, you should have said yes to large drive support. If you did, the problem is likely BIOS.
See what the BIOS says about the 30GB.
And no, you can't install ME on a drive, put it in another box and have it work.

Okay thanks for that so if I want to put a 40 Gig hard dive in another computer what have I got to do, Do I have to reformat and istal ME and if so what do I need a Start-up Disk or a Boot Disk ??? and if so can I download the Boot Disk for ME on a computer thats running Windows XP Thanks
