Lots of fdisk howtos around the web.. You might also check out the microsoft format and fdisk instructions. Lots of content here but after reading it once i was able to use fdisk to partition my drive.

You didn't say if you were trying to partition the drive while retaining all your files...or if you were going to format and partition. I thought that fdisk would destroy all the data if you try to partition the drive. Am I wrong?
In any case, I went a different route for other reasons. I wanted to install multiple OSes, some on a drive with 20gb of data in place, some on a new 100gb drive. I chose system commander 7 because it would safely re-partition the old drive as well as set up the new one. It does a lot of stuff and is easy to use. $60 well spent.
