Hi all.
I tried to fdisk my hard drive today but after the bit that says 'do you want to enable large drive...' I selected "Yes"
Instead of the Fdisk menu coming up, I was throw back to the 'A' prompt.
Can any one shed light on this problem please?

Hi Jennifer.
My OS loads normally. The HD is 40 Gig. The current setup is C drive about 32Gig and D drive about 5 Gig.
It is the latter, the D drive (partition)that I want to get rid off as I do not use it and space is becoming a premium on C drive.
That is why I am trying to load the Fdisk function to get rid of D partition.

Hi Janset,
Not obvious why fdisk quit.
But keep in mind when you get a fresh fdisk that just removing the D partition will not "get your space back."
You'll need a third party partition sizer to get all the space into one partition.

I'd move the data files to the D partition. That way, if anything happens to the OS on C and you have to reload, then your data is still intact.

Hi all.
I am not worried about loosing my OS as I have it Ghosted onto another drive.
As to using a 3rd party program like Partition Magic, I have that program and I think I tried to use it some time ago on a similar problem.
What I found them was that the program would only reduce the partition in question, but I could not get it to actually remove/merge the partitions.
Maybe I was doing something wrong. I will have to have another go with Partition Magic after I reload it again as I uninstalled the program when I had finished with it.

Hi,
If you have two partitions on a single hard disk. Partition Magic will do what you wish very easily.
You need to delete the D: partition or reduce the size of the D: partition, creating unallocated space not used by either the C or D drive and then increase the size of the C: partition, recovering this unallocated space.
As with any operations with Partition Magic
Create the resucue disks when prompted
Backup all data before use
Carry out the opeations one by one, do not set up deleting partitions, resizing partitions and other operations all at the same time. Do these tasks one by one.On the newer versions of partition Magic certainly from version 7 I have. I can't remember about the earlier versions. You can also merge the two partitions. This is fully described in the manuals and help files.
If you have Windows 2000, NT or even XP your version of Partition Magic may be too old for the NTFS partitions. What version do you have.
