As the subject tag implies I have been attempting to clean up my files etc. Several times in the last few days I have attempted to run degfrag only to have the computer get to about the 10% done point and then the "blue screen of death" appears and says there was an error oe 0028:DC 000000
I'm using windows ME and am a relative novice when it comes to problem fixing.
Any ideas on what I can do?
Thanks!

Have you tried running them in safe mode?

What kind of programs do you have running in the background when you attempt to run scandisk and defrag in normal mode?

The only programs would be those that are running "automatically" like:

systray
khooker
webtrap
iomon98
and a few others I also have no idea what they are.

Make sure to run a THOROUGH scandisk to fix all errors. If defrag moves data into unmarked bad sectors, your computer could become unbootable.

What Anti-Virus are you running? I'll take a guess after looking around and say McAfee or PC-Cillin.If it's Mcafee, get rid of it.
PC-cillin is liked by many, cursed by some!

Either way, make sure your AV program is not running when you attempt to run scandisk, defrag. You can easily get away with only explorer&systray running when you attempt to scandisk, defrag.Press Ctrl+Alt+Del see what's running before you run scandisk, defrag.Or simply do it in safe mode.

Just letting you know that I ran degrag in safe mode and had no problems. I'll work on scandisc when I have more time.
Thanks!
