I bought my computer with Windows and everything pre-installed. All I have is a recovery disk. I've had a lot of problems and I think I'm just going to use the factory restore. I heard somewhere, that every time you use the factory restore, it takes life away from your computer. (does that make sense?)Is that true?

I just did factory restore and updated most of the Windows Updates. I'm starting to think the root of the problem with my computer is the McAfee Virus Scan. Everytime I go to use it, my computer crashes. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it countless times but it just doesn't want to work. All I want is for my computer to go a day with out crashing. I can't check for viruses. Is it the Virus Scan? Should I dump it and go buy a newer version? I wish I knew more about computers! Thanks

Get rid of Mcafee, and get Norton,or even AVG,which you can get a free version of.
Make sure you back up all the stuff you've added/saved/downloaded to CD with your easyCDcreator(or whatever burning program you have). It'll make things alot easier if/after you do a system recovery.Save stuff like Favorites,Pictures as well.

Sara, Learning about how to use MSCONFIG in Windows Me can eliminate alot of problems in Windows Me! Go To START/RUN/ type MSCONFIG when the System Configuration Utility pops up click on the startup tab and see whats loading at startup . Having to many things loading at startup can cause you to have low system resources and cause alot of the problems you describe. Eliminate applications that you can activate on a as need basis. I also installed Norton Utilities and the frist time I ran a scan it found 13 errors and repaired them. After I boot up my system the user resources are at 94% ! Right after bootup right click on My Computer , click on properties , then click on the performannce tab and it will show you what your user resources are at. If they are low from the start , you need to reconfigure yor system and free up some resources . LOL, Nick

The KLEZ ruined the McAfee program and Escan program. Some files get infected and you just have to dump it.
