f disk how to use for external hard

I have bought a external hard disk but the computer don't see him. The helpdesk said me to use the DOS instruction F Disk but I don't know how to use that. Can someone explain me (pc with windows millenium)

Whoa there boy! Hold that f-disk... :) First of all, what type of connection are you using for the external drive? When you boot the machine, does the BIOS see the drive?
