I'm running windows me. I was on line and recieved a message in the lower right hand corner of my desktop of a windows update intall available. I went ahead and installed the update. After doing so I was unable to open any of the programs on my desktop. I shut the system down and rebooted but it did not help. I hit ctrl alt delete and it sayed explorer (not responding). I am able to open internet explorer but cannot access my desktop programs. I tryed to reinstall windows me. Windows me setup starts but than stops responding. I hit ctrl alt delete and it says windows me setup (not responding) winoldap (not resonding) setup (not responding). I ran a virus scan (twice) which turned up no infected files. I tryed system restore, it starts but then the progress bar stops at the half way point. The system restarts but says it was unable to make changes. What, if anything, can i do???

Same problem. When i disable the Static NDIS.VXD I get back operability of the sistem, but I lost all the network functions. I replaced the NDIS.VXD but it does not resolve the problem. Maybe the system registry was scrambled in some way.

Problem solved for me!
I reverted the last windows update by replacing the updated files in the windows\system folder with the originals ones. They are UPNP.DLL (from cab#15) SSDPAPI.DLL (cab#15) and SSDPSRV.exe (cab#17). You need to do this in safe mode.
Good Luck

When I double-click on the explorer icon it times out, however when I go rigth-click and then open I am able to get in the net but it takes a long time to open the page or else the computer will freeze. Also since this starting happening I am not longer to get into my E-mail.
Please If anyone has any idea on what to do about this problem let me know. This has become extremely frustrating.

When I boot up the computer it takes for ever. It will sit and wait for the desktop to come up. When I hit ctrl-alt-delete it says explorer not responding. If I say cancel and wait a minute or two then it will go to my desktop. It will work fine. On another note Outlook Express will sometimes lock up and then I have to force it to end task. Hope someone has suggestions.

Thank you,
Brian

P.S. If someone is going to reply to this use Re: computer problem. I get alot of junk mail.
