I have just installed the DSL dialer upgrade provided by my ISP, which included a program called "cFOS - COM PORT EMULATOR FOR ISDN CAPI & DSL". I am now getting the "Explorer has caused User.exe Error. Explorer will now close" message whenever I click on anything in Control Panel. Both Control Panel & Iexplorer 6 then close down, and the DSL connection icon (the two blinking Monitors) on the task bar disappears although the connection is still on. I am up to date with all hardware & software drivers/upgrades, and run Norton System Works regularly.

My system:

IBM ThinkPad X20
Pentium III 600 Mhz
320MB RAM
20GB HD
3Com 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet Adapter
NEC ATU-R200 Modem
Win ME - Traditional Chinese version

Thanks in advance for any help. From past experience, I doudt if the technical support people from my ISP will be of much help, and I now have problems re-installing the old dialer.

I take it you tried to install over the original? I know I recently had to Format C:\ and re-install ME because I installed ME over itself and screwed up the 3com connection. No doubt some files or registry entries were corrupted, but after looking for a couple days, I did a clean install and it is fine now. I imagine the reason this happens is because the 3com card is running as soon as you boot up, and of course we all know it is not adviseable to install files to a system which is running. Probably would have worked if I had just taken the card out, remove system devices, booted, then installed? But too late now! LOL
