I have been troubleshooting what seems to be an OS / router conflict for several days now.
Recently I set up a Linksys WRT54G (v.5) wireless router, and it works with no issues for at least three different computers, running Windows XP or 2000.
However, my Toshiba Satellite laptop (model 2805-S302) is running Windows ME (v. 4.90.3000), and whenever I interface it with the router, whether hard-wired into the back of the router, or via a new Linksys WPC54G (v.3) wireless notebook adapter, my Windows explorer stops responding.
In every case, I need to disengage the router communication, then Control-Alt-Delete to end Explorer, and then everything is stable again.
In doing some searches on the internet, there seems to be several other people who have had problems with Windows ME and wireless routers, not just Linksys routers. However, none of the threads seem to offer a solution.
Is anyone aware of a conflict between Windows ME and wireless routers?
Any advice on what I might try to resolve this? Any checks I can make to see where this conflict might reside (log files, etc.)? The inner-workings of the Windows OS is definitely not my specialty.
I have performed all available Windows ME updates, I have updated the router firmware to latest...
This router works beautifully on other computers.
Any help is certainly appreciated.

amnesoid, dunno if it has any bearing on the problem, but... ME, as it came out of the box, had several problems of varying severity. One of those was failure to release memory properly after it was done using it and what you describe sounds eerily like that.
If you haven't done so already, suggest you read/apply 'Trev's Tweaks ...' to your ME machine @:

I would try another web browser -- like Firefox ( http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ ). For security reasons it is probably a good idea to switch anyway... ( http://secunia.com/product/11/ )
Here is an advisory from the federal gov that suggest using another browser ( http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/713878 ).Good luck.
