Explorer doesn't display files

Original Message

Subject: Explorer doesn't display files
OS: Windows ME
CPU/Ram: 512
Comment:
I deleted 'hotbar' files, now Window Explorer will only show folders in the left pane, and the status bar shows the size of the folder, but the right pane only shows a small red x or a faint gray square - no files. The files can be found/opened via applications and the entire folders copied to a flashdrive - files are there. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Herb.
I tried all of the suggestions, but no 'cookies'... I'm really not looking forward to having to reformat the drive ...
