I am running IE5.5 and have never upgraded with the service pack 2. I am wondering if I shoud take a chance and do the update or not. I figured I would ask the experts here BEFORE I screw it up. 1/2 of me says to take a chance and go for it, and the other 3/4 of me says if it ain't broke [yet] don't fix it. The system seems to run well enough, and the only DLL errors I get are using Hotmail..I know as much about computers as I know about fractions, so any input would be appreciated...Thank you in advance.

hello
up gradeing to service pack 2 works just grate for me.
but advoid ie6 unless you got a ghost or drive image copy of your hard drive.
have a nice day

It should be no problem whatsoever. I did so some time ago - but have elected to stay away altogether from IE 6 . Too many problems for some - as indicated by many posts in this forum.

I am in the same situation as the first two responses, but I also have a golden rule....if it ain't broke........
So, why bother?

Hi all.
Last week I visited Windows update and down loaded 3 critical updates over a period of about 4 days and all went well.I then updates the latest driver that was suggested to me on the windows update page.
For the next 3 days all I got were freezes and a couple of crashes. I did a restore and all was well again.
To double checked by I reinstalling the driver again with the same result. Again I did a restore and all is well again. So for me, the driver update can take a running jump.
Anyone else have the same problem?
Regards

Janset,
I have never been offered a driver at windows update. For a while i thought this feature didnt actually work :).
I usually only update drivers once after a clean install and then i only get drivers for things that arent recognized or working properly.
"if it aint broke" should be scribed on every keyboard!

I updated a chip driver ( Intel) a week ago - and all went OK. Despite this, I do suggest all be very selective in downloading updates.
As has been said before - " If it aint broke"
ie, leave well enough alone.
I suspect some updates are designed to force you to install new OS especially XP which I hear does well with IE 6. My ME runs fine, and probably because very cautious with downloading updates.

I have had IE6 since it was not beta, I have had no problem with it at all and has more features, the only thing I do is take the Alexa as stated with (is Alexa spying on you) check with Googly if interested,But I had to do that also even with ie5.5, I also have the new service pack installed with the ie6, and I don't show any problems at all, but one thing that I do is I never have a firewall or antivirus start up with my windows I manualy turn on and I think that when you download from the windows update and it says it has to restart to finish installing that these (2) programs interfere with the installation? could be? maybe thats why some people have problems and some don't.
Also drivers have also installed for me from the windows update site, I only had one and it was for sound.
