Thanks for response 'jboy'and greetings from England. Here is a link to the microsoft help analysis I have been using http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=a9a72d35-3acc-4002-a993-e553e79d86ab&SID=1328 You will see the event viewer is high profile under 'troubleshooting' I reckon the answer is the tool is missing from Me as you suggest in your posting.Any thoughts ?

Try going to the sfp folder and looking in the log file in that folder the folder is located at >C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM the sfp ,stands for system file protection ,its a Windows Me built in pprogram that suppose to protect any important and needed files from being corrupted or altered ! Good Luck Nick

Thanks to everyone that responded. With respect to 'hiho' imho it was not 'quite obvious' that Event Viewer was missing from Me on reading the crash analsis support page.I know differently now and accept I should have realised and not wasted everyones time.I suppose the day is not far off when Microsoft will pull the plug on Me.Over and out from England
