I bet all you need to do is reinstall the card and set it up usng the cable modem instead of the dsl. Do everything the way you did when you set up for dsl. First uninstall the card. Then reinstall the card. Next, plug in the cable from the computer to the modem. Restart the system. It should detect the card and start your setup for the drivers. Also are you using the cable or the usb? I hope it works. Cyndy

bull. the NIC is standard. beyond the modem is another story.

Go to the command prompt (start/run/command) and run ipconfig /?

That will give you the syntax. But you'll find that

ipconfig /all

will return all the NIC settings.

If you can
Ping localhost
and
ping

then your NIC is ok.

what you should see with these pings is packets sent, delay times etc. If it times out with no transmissions something is wrong. Is the NIC still enabled in BIOS?

You can also ping beyond your modem. You can do this:
Ping www.microsoft.com

If you get Unknown Host, whatever your pinging doesn't exist or you don't have ISP connection.

The other possibility is a valid site but no response from it.(web site is having problems)

Try and post back

Jay,
Since my suggestion didn't work, I think the quickest and safest way would be for you to uninstall the card and go buy a new one. They are pretty cheap now. That way you can install the card with the correct software and drivers and set up properly. Hope this helped some.

get one for $15. you can spend more but why?

so this is a card and not on board NIC? if it is on board, check BIOS to see if it is enabled.

If it is a card, You could also take it out, find the model number and manufacturer and do an advanced search google with the model number and qualify it with the manufacturer's name. you can probably download the correct driver.

RayMan,
I have a desktop and have an ethernet portal. I am not sure if I have a card or on board NIC-
how can i tell?

there is not a slot to take out a card.

if its is a board...and i got to bios..if its enabled- then what?
