Hi,
Sometime a go a started getting an error massage on boot up:
"Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2
Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting
Windows may not start or run properly

Press any key to continue

If windows fails to start, run setup again

It does start but I get this message everytime I reboot.

I did not install any new software lately.

that's a strange one! What operating system do you have? I suspect there may be some hanky panky going on - either with a legitimate piece of software you have...or a virus/trojan/hacker type deal. Just pure speculation on my part, simply because I have never seen anything close to this before, and the nature of the error. Please post with your OS and any other details you think would be helpful.

Thanks.
I'm using Windows ME OEM version.
PIII 1Ghz, 256 RAM, Intel Mother board w/Sound Max2 and Intel Graphics Controller
2 hard drives - total 40GB
DVD and CD writer

I haven't installed any new software before that happened. I did a full virus scan multiple times and it seems that everything is fine. I started having this problem a couple of weeks ago. Since I couldn't figure out what's causing it I restored my computer to a time when this did not occur using Roxio's Go Back that comes with Norton System Works2002 (originalCD)
Everything was fine, two days passed and there it comes again:( It's not giving me a big hassle except that the computer needs me to push the key on boot up. Plus the text of the message is not encouring.

Personally, I'm not using any firewall but I thing my ISP is. I live in Kuwait and the Internet is "censored". It's a dial up connection. I don't know if that matters but just for the record.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks again

Magda
