Let me start at the beginning, back in October of 2004 I started experiencing all kinds of errors and crashing on my system. I couldnt figure out for the life of me what was causing them. Then one day after a reboot my computer wouldnt turn back on. So I took it to a repair guy, he told me my system was extremely unstable but he couldnt figure out exactly what was wrong with it. He ended up reseeding the video card and downloading some up to date drivers and I took the computer as is off his hands.
From that point on the crashes, freezing and errors just became a way of life for me. Then one day a few months ago my computer froze to the point that I had to cut power and then power on to unfreeze it. Well thats when everything went terible! I was getting a blue screen with a windows protection error. I couldnt get passed the blue screen. I was able to start in safe mode but still couldnt figure out what the problem was. So I sent it to a friend of the family who fixes computers. He reinstalls windows without reformatting and apparently he had it running but when I got it home it didnt work. I went back and forth with him a few more times but it never worked for me.
So I finally took it down to Best Buy. They couldnt figure out what the problem was and reformatted my computer. Great, so my computer was running like a champ for about 3 weeks! Then all of a sudden my system started to freeze worse than ever before, I mean I couldnt be on the thing for more than a minute without it freezing. So while at work I started googleing looking for answers. Thats how i found this place. I came accross a similar article and found a link, http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtweak.html to help optimize performance for me. I did this yesterday. It started to seem that I had finally found the problems and my computer for the first time for as I long as I can remember was running correctly without any errors or freezing! Fantastic Im thinking! I even updated all my drivers. So I start reading about how defragmenting your hard drive is a good idea. So before bed I let defragment run, I get an error that says I should run scandisk. So I do, then I get another error in scandisk and am prompted to not be notified when it finds errors and just fixes them. I say yes to all and let it run.
This morning I check my computer and scandisk has finished it says it found errors and fixed them. I press close. Then I realize I have a major problem, my screen is blank. I can see my desktop but its empty no shortcuts, recycle bin or anything, not even the toolbar at the bottom with start and system tray. Oh crap Im thinking, so i hit ctrl+alt+delete. I get an error that say mcaffee is installing in the background. Now Im stumped, I mean I have mcaffed virus scan but why would it be installing anything, I have auto update disabled. So I let it go for about 10 minutes, my sreen is still blank. I get frustrated and restart.
Big mistake, Now Im getting this error Msgsrv32 in SYSDM.CPL Msgsrv32 will now close. So i hit close on the error box. Now my screen is blank just like described above. I can see my desktop but its empty and no start menu, I hit ctrl+alt+delete and it shows no programs running.
I restarted in safe mode and got the exact same result, the only difference was that scandisk ran before I was taken to my desktop.
Can someone please help me or recomend a repair guy in the east bay area california that isnt a complete tool.
Thanks

Well Ive been turning the computer on here and there today to see if its working, no such luck. I started in safe mode a few hours ago and got a white box that said scandisk error, so scandisk isnt running in safe mode anymore. I also tried to go in and look at bootlog and everything thats in that window but nothing worked. I dont remember the name off hand but the last option in that window, its like manual start or somehting I think. Anyways I tried that and it stopped at mouse and then gave me the error again.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I can try given the situation, very detailed basic instructions needed.
Thanks
